Doorpost

Hi everyone,

Is there a name for a sign, particularly a decorative one, hanging on a door? I thought it was doorpost, but in dictionaries the doorpost is the doorjamb.

Thanks.

Hi, Could you maybe post a picture of what you mean? All I can thin of right now is "decorative sign" and I'm sure that's not what you're going for!

Hi,

Which is better, door hanging or door hanger for a decorative sign to be hung on the door (not the doorknob)? Is there another term for it?

Thanks.

I would use "door hanging."

The one in your link is a 'welcome sign'. If you had one with a Biblical verse, I think I would call it a 'Biblical quotation'. In general, if we were hanging it on the wall, we wouldn't simply call it a wall decoration or a wall sign (though we might call it a wall plaque) so I think I would look for a more specific term.
