dont understand this sentence

The exterminator pumped gas into the walls on both the first  and second floors .how can one pump gas into the wall ?  does it make any sense ?however, can you simplify this sentence ?  basically keyword "into  the wall  "  is a cumbersome i dont know how many people push gas into the wall ......or this is standard usage which means something else ?

It's a matter of construction methods. Many walls are constructed with a space in between the two outer surfaces. The space often contains heating ducts, electrical wiring, insulation, etc. It's simple to pump gas into such walls.

i dont know how many people push gas into the wall ......or this is standard usage which means something else ? The word "push" doesn't work in this context. You need the word "pump".
