Don't or Doesn't

What's the difference between don't and doesn't ? Is don't for the present and doesn't for the past ?

Top answer

No, they are both present tense. "doesn't" (= "does not") is for third-person singular subjects ("he/she/it doesn't"). "don't" (= "do not") is for everything else ("I/you/we/they don't").

Here is the present tense of "do"
I do
You do
He, she, it does
They do

Now add the negative: "not"
I do not
You do not
He, she, it does not
They do not

Now make the contraction of do/does + not
I don't
You don't
He, she, it doesn't
