I don't know how to say this please?
If you have a friend who lives abroad and is about to rent an apartment which is 10 minutes from the town center. If you've never been to that city. You have no idea how far that is.
To understand how far it is, he tells you that the apartment is as far from the town center as x is from y in your hometown as a guide so that you can picture the distance and have a guide.
