Don't give up on us

"Don't give up on us." VS. "Don't give us up." I heard the first in a song but I don't feel any difference between them. To native English speakers, is there a difference or nuance between them? Thank you and I really hope to hear from you.

To give something up or give up something means forgo it or let it go. To give up on something means to lose hope in it or abandon it. "Don't give up on us" in your song probably means "keep hoping we will be happy together".
