Hi

Please tell me if this sentence is natural.

[teacher to students]

Don't forget to capitalize the first word of every sentence.

Why shouldn't it be "the first letter of the first word"? We don't capitalize the whole word.

Technically you are correct, but it's well understood what is meant. I suppose you say "Don't forget to initial-capitalize..."

Because "to capitalize a word" means to make its firstletter a capital letter. Otherwise you'd say, "Write the first word in 'all-caps'" or "Use 'all-caps' for the first word". Well, that's what I would say, anyway.
