Don't follow anyone who's not going anywhere

Can you please explain the verb follow in this context? and not going anywheremight have another meaning than it's usual one? Emotion: smile it's queote so I have no further context.

Don't follow anyone who's not going anywhere. with some people you spend an evening: with others you invest it.
