Don't cry over split, spilt or spilled milk.

The title of a book ("It looked like Split Milk") by Charles Shaw and the two possible past tenses of the verb "to spill " (spill v., spilled or spilt) are creating quite a confusion in this expression. Are there many ways of writing this idiomatic expression? Thanks.M.R.

"Spilled milk" or "spilt milk" are both possible. I think the above title may be a typing error because on Google I get 76 hits for "It looked like Split Milk" but 1,340 for "It looked like Spilt Milk". Of course, it could also be intended as a visual pun.
