Pea jacket, if similar to the American sailor's
melton jacket thus named.

Judging from what I found it'd probably be "work jacket". I've never heard of a "donkey jacket". AmE (American English) is the kind I use.

Noun 1. donkey jacket - a short thick jacket; often worn by workmen
jacket - a short coat

Huh? "Donkey jacket" *is* American English it's a euphemism for the original BrE "*** jacket".

[nq:1]I know what a donkey jacket is; it's a heavy dark wool jacket, of the type worn by construction workers in England. I think a "pea coat" is the same kind of jacket, but I don't really know exactly what a pea coat is.[/nq]
The"reinforced shoulders" bit is important

I don't know what a "donkey jacket" is, but for AmE purposes a pea coat is a coat, not a jacket. (I think the BrE definition of "jacket" is broader, or at least differe
