Dollars Hyphen

Is a hyphen fine in writing out a number before dollars, or is it superfluous? For example:

"I can't believe she's suing me for twenty-thousand dollars!"

I'm pretty sure it's unnecessary for numbers signifying years, for example, "three hundred years."

Don't use it there. In "twenty-five thousand" yes (if you don't want to write $25,000).

So, say, for $50,000, I would just write fifty thousand dollars, with no hyphen?
