doing work

Can I write:

The waiter is doing work in the restaurant.

Top answer

You can say that, but it doesn't sound like he is acting as a waiter. While it's was being remodelled, the waiter, who has some carpentry skills, is doing work in the restaurant. He is working in the restaurant as a waiter.
