Doing jumping

Hi:

I heard this sentence is correct grammatically. Is it true? If so, why or why not?

"He is doing jumping."

It sounds wrong.

Thanks.

If you consider "jumping" a standardized activity, your sentence is not that different from "He's doing pushups" or "He's swimming/doing laps."
I'm sure you'd be okay with "He's doing jumping jacks."

I'll admit, "He's practicing his jumping" sounds a little better!
