Doing his work on the computer?

Hi. Which of the following is correct if we want to say someone does his work on the computer, like doing research on a certain subject matter, or perhaps doing his homework? As for the number 2 example sentence, I think it could mean someone fixing the computer rather than doing his or her work on the computer, which you don't want it to mean. Thank you for your help in advance.

1. He does his work on the computer.
2. He works on the computer.
