Dog scuttle, scamper, trot

Hi,

If a dog is running by his master's side in an adorable way (taking small but fast steps), which verb would you use?

"Look at how she's scuttling, scampering, trotting by John's side."

Thank you.

In that context "trotting" seems best to me. "trotting along by John's side" would be usual too.
