Doesn't make me a construction worker...

Sara: Are you a musician?

John: I'm a drummer. I don't want to go as far as calling myself a musician just yet though.

Sara: Why is that?

John: Doesn't make me a construction worker. Because he's a plain

construction worker?

Sara: That's all right.

John: No, it's not. It's terrible.

Hi, More context is needed. The general idea is that something that has been said or that is in the context does not mean that John should be considered a construction worker. Possibly the idea is that although he does not yet want to call himself a musician, he does not want to be considered merely a construction worker.
