Does this sound strange

I was told that using "I are" for the following sounds strange.

As the deadline for my new website is getting closer, the development team and I are getting nervous.

Is the following that uses "both myself and the development team" better than the above sentence?

As the deadline for my new website is getting closer, both myself and the development team are getting nervous.
