does this SOP convey the message adequately?

I thought studying Medicine would give me the insight into epidemiology and public health but it didn’t. Reality struck me during my compulsory service year to Gombe State in North Eastern Nigeria. There I was exposed to medicine not bound by the walls of a Health facility – Occupational Health and Safety in a volatile environment.
My interest in epidemiology was piqued during a cholera outbreak with several cases in the temporary camps for displaced persons. This was compounded by the crisis, incessant attacks by extremists and flooding. All I could do was manage the cases that presented at the Health Centre and create some awareness in the Workers village. I may have taken proactive steps if we were well informed on surveillance and promoting best health practices to contain the situation.
Presently, I work with an indigenous NGO, the lead international partner in a state with 12% prevalence of HIV. Experience plays a pivotal role but the place for in-depth structured learning to consolidate and provide insight into certain practices can’t be overemphasized. I believe interactions with the academic world would present the frame work to theories, processes would gain appropriate nomenclature, exposure and experiences would be taken to a global platform.
As I prepare to be a key player in the field of epidemiology I plan to use the knowledge gained to implement disease surveillance and infection control strategies in communities and teach others by actively lecturing and researching.
LSTHM, a renowned school of excellence affords me the opportunity.
