does this setence breach any grammatical rules?

Hi

1.Communication between everyone was in English, it being widely recognised and easy to converse in.

2.It being widely recognised and easy to converse in, English was the main tool of communication.

In the first sentence the modifying participle seemed misplaced to me, but after rephrasing the sentence (#2) I realized I might be wrong.

I know the first sentence is not elegant, but does it violate any grammatical rules?

Thanks for any comments

Not to my mind.

I don't see any mistakes in either sentence. The opening It in the second sentence hardly seems necessary, though.
