Rommel may not be a way to forget I would say, "may not be the best way to forget" instead. Rommel yet it is a process to feel better eventually. Who is saying that, you or your girlfriend?

Would it be acceptable if I replaced 'but that it is one/a way of making us' with 'but that it is one/a process of making us'?

My girlfriend has told me that moving on may not be the best way to forget but that it is one/a process of making us feel better eventually.
