Does this sentence sound right? Thanks for you help!

A government’s purpose should be to protect its citizens from having their rights violated by others. A government’s purpose should not be to compel its citizens to behave in accordance with their own good.

I'm not sure about the "behave in accordance with their own good" part. It just sound wrong to me, but I'm not sure why. Does it sound right to you?
