Does this sentence make sense as it is

Does this sentence make sense as it is? The trying and crying part sound strange to me, but maybe that is just me??

She will be crying, trying to make herself vanish in the fabric of her shirt.

This is grammatical and might be okay in a certain context. The use of the word "fabric" seems unusual. "Fabric" is a technical, academic type of word, while the sentence is very non-technical and non-academic, and so it doesn't seem to fit the situation.

  • An example of use (I've removed the questionable word "fabric"): A: You'll find her sitting on the ground at the bus station.
  • B: How will I recognize her?
