Does this say what it means to say?

He’d get quite a social boost

while not impinging on his actual life.

Okay let's try this:

He would enjoy all the benefits of raising an orphan, without actually impinging on his life.

I felt like it was cheating to change too much. I re-read the sentence in context and you were right. It was to vague. I hope I managed to get it right this time! It already sounds better.
