Does this need to be capitalized?

Smith knew he had to go to the Jackson lab.

Does "lab" need to be capitalzied here?

Thank you!

It depends. If "Jackson Lab" is the recognised proper name of the building or facility, then "Lab" should be capitalised (a bit like "House" in "the White House", for example). If it's just an ad hoc description of a lab belonging to someone called Jackson then it shouldn't.
