does this make sense?

A: I think the man ought to spend the rest of his life in jail.
B: For stealing $100?
A: ( 1 )
B: But it was the first time.
A: ( 2 ) I think that's what you mean.

a. From a defenseless old woman.
b. Not above suspicion.
c. That he was caught.

If I put "a" in #1, and put "c" in #2, does this dialogue make sense?
