Does the word "the" need to proceed "market"?

Do you want some roast beef from market?

Top answer

Yes you do need an article before market. You also are unlikely to get some roast beef from the market. You would get beef suitable for roasting but maybe not roast beef.

Hi,

Where I live, we talk about 'the store' rather than 'the market'.

That's a good point Clive.

Anon:

A market is often outside a couple of days a week with stalls.

A store is a shop selling food and other regularly needed items.

A supermarket/hypermarket is a large store which sells a huge range of products with a large choice of food.
