Hi there, I could use some help with checking the essay, generally it's quite good, but I'd need somebody, preferably a native speaker of English to see if it "sounds" fine. Thanks a lot in advance!
1. Our adventure began at the Katowice airport, from which we went by plane to London. It was my first and unforgettable flight. When we arrived at London Stansted airport, we went by bus to the London underground. There, everybody, depending on their number in the school register had to buy underground tickets for the entire group. I was the first one. We got to our hotel on High Road, Wembley, which was close to all the attractions. After checking in, we went to China Town where we could see lively London and taste the delicacies in local restaurants, for example sushi. We also took a tour around the factory of m&ms, in which were plenty of toys, gadgets and clothes with these well-known sweets. It was a really yummy trip. After an evening walk, we took the underground back to the hotel where we unpacked and went to sleep. 2. We started the second day with our first London breakfast. They served fruit, scrambled eggs, bacon, potatoes (in the shape of triangles), toast, fresh juice, and beans, adored by everybody. As we didn’t want to waste any time, right after breakfast we took the underground to see the Change of the Guards at Buckingham palace. The weather was nice which doesn’t often happen in London, so we could watch the ceremony with real pleasure. During the ceremony many musical instruments were used to play different songs. The guards were dressed in formal uniforms. We learned that the colours of ribbons on their hats are matched with an occasion. Next we went to catch a breath to St. James' Park, it’s a beautiful and very well maintained place . A few people had some delicious ice cream, and others spent time in the company of geese. The best attraction for me was visiting Buckingham Palace. We were very lucky that the Queen had gone to Scotland because we could see how the royal family lives. At the entrance we were given audio guides, so we knew what area of the castle we were in. We visited a dining room, ballroom, hall, kitchen and confectionery equipment as well as the Queen’s clothes and things. Each wall was decorated with beautiful paintings, sculptures and curtains. Unfortunately, we couldn’t take pictures, but these views will stay in our memory for a long time. After visiting the palace, we went to a gift shop where you could buy china, key chains, etc., and where we could hear some information about the palace told by our friends. We learned, for example, that the statue in front of Buckingham Palace is a monument of Queen Victoria. Next we went over the Millennium Bridge where there was a perfect view of London, and we arrived at The Museum of Modern Art. There were presented many pieces of art made by contemporary artists. Some of them were very surprising. Sculptures had character. There were also hidden alleys with film screenings and quotes written on the walls. After leaving the museum, we met a street musician who was playing the guitar at sunset. It was a beautiful sight. Then we split into groups. One group went to the Shakespeare theatre to watch a Moliere's play and the other one went to the largest shopping centre in London - Westfield. Because of this shopping spree we came back very late. We also had an adventure with the underground, because we missed a station, and this was the last stop. We had no other choice but to wait for the next train, fortunately the conductor was Polish and he helped us to get to the hotel quickly. 3. Next day, we went to the transport museum in which there were some of the oldest double-decker buses ever made in London. At each station we stamped little pictures with different means of transport. There were old bus tickets hanging from the ceiling; the view was amazing because there were lots of them. At the entrance there were red, crooked statues decorated with red LED light. We also could take photos of old buses. Then we went to have a meal out, where we met our guide. He was really funny and had great knowledge. He told us about the creator of Harry Potter and showed us her former home. He described the battle of .... which then we acted out in front of the main entrance to the National Art Gallery. Then we went to see Big Ben, where sitting under the statue of Abraham Lincoln we listened to....... After the meeting with the guide, we visited the National Art Gallery, which houses “Sunflowers” by Vincent Van Gogh, “Crucifixion” by Raphael Santi, “Bacchus and Adrianna” by Titian and “Venus and Mars” by Botticelli. The National Gallery presents a collection of paintings from 1250 to 1900, and there are more than 2.300 works. After visiting the gallery, we went to the Westminster Cathedral which is a Roman Catholic basilica, erected in the late nineteenth and early twentieth century, where we took part in a solemn Mass, recited in English. The surprise of the day was Emirates Air Line cable car, going up to 90 meters. Thanks to such height you could see the whole panorama of London with its most beautiful points. It connects both banks of the River Thames in East London. We thought it was a perfect ending to the day but it turned out that we had missed our train and all underground lines had closed, fortunately our wonderful guide called taxis for us which took us safely to the hotel. 4. Monday began with a trip to the Natural History Museum History where a film titled “ A Night at the Museum " was made. The entire building is divided into 5 sectors which house exhibits from different periods of time. We saw the biggest dinosaur and the exhibition of beautiful stones and diamonds. Some of them were really breathtaking. After visiting the Natural History Museum we went to the Science Museum. Its collection includes exhibits from various fields of science and technology. One of the local attractions was hanging cars, old rockets and film cameras. There was a suspended globe in one of the rooms and in another one there was a shop with gifts and scientific gadgets. It was a great experience because you rarely can learn so much about the world of science in one place. After the museum we went to Westminster Abbey. This is the abbey where English kings were crowned, and since the thirteenth century this has been also a place of their burial. We could listen to the audio guide, which talked about the particular tombs or chapels. The ceiling was placed really high what emphasized the nobility of the building, while chapels were decorated with gold and sculptures. The interesting fact is that the royal couple got married here (Duchess Kate and Prince William). On the way to Westfield, we went to a huge toy shop, where we met an English magician. Some of his tricks were very surprising and funny. My friends and I took a photo with a giant gorilla and a 2-metre Lego statue. There were tons of sweets and teddy bears with cute eyes. Then we had some time to do last shopping in Westfield, while a few people went to the Greenwich observatory, where they could place their feet on two hemispheres at once, Northern and Southern. In the evening we met at the hotel, it was our last night in London. 5. The next morning after breakfast, we went to the shopping centre. At this time we were surprised with pouring rain, fortunately we were standing at the bus stop shelter so we didn’t get wet as much as much as pedestrians. A few minutes later we went by bus to the airport, where we had time to have lunch and then rest. After checking in and receiving the tickets, we boarded the plane and two hours later we landed at the airport in Poland. I have a lot of memories of the trip. It was a very nice adventure. London is beautiful and really interesting, I hope I'll go there again sometime.
