Does the bold part, especially 'thereby', fit the sentence?

One is considered to have achieved the purification of the six sense organs when one acquires ears that can correctly hear True Buddhism, a nose that can detect and identify right and wrong, a tongue that can truly relish and enjoy the taste of benefits, a body that gives delight not only to the self but to others and finally, a mind that is deeply compassionate, thereby bringing comfort and relief to those who are suffering.

Does the bold part, especially 'thereby', fit the sentence? If not, could you please show me how to improve the construction?

Thanks.
