Does "that" here mean "so that" or "in that way"?

Context:
This is because a patient ,by whatever name he or she is called, remains more than one who is willing to pay for a good or a service. He or she remains one who suffers pain and has presented that pain to those of us in the medical profession that it might ,perchance, be alleviated.
