Does "stalk" mean "trace secretly"?

The original meaning of stalk was to pursue in a stealthy manner , and it still may be used in this way, but in this context it would mean that the stalker had an obsession with the victim, and followed the victim around, repeatedly contacted them etc. contrary to the wishes of the victim.
