Does not have practical knowledge

This guy does not have practical knowledge on the subject, even though he possess theoritical knowledge due to his academic qualification.

Is this sentence correct?

However, when I search for "does not have/possess practical knowledge" on Google, it hits very less results so I'm not sure if this is the standard expression.

It depends on the tone you're trying for. It's perfectly correct to use possess, but I just wouldn't use it in the same sentence as this guy.
