Does it fit?

Is it correct to say:

-Hi james,It's been a while since we last saw each others,I'm looking forward to knowing some (news) about you!

Is the word "news" compulsery in that sentence or else, should I use another word?

Thanks for answering!

Ps:(May you correct any mistake in my ENTIRE message, that'd be cool!)
