Does "top Italian scientists are dissociating themselves from an influential Miami-based clinician" mean "top italian scientists are begining to deny their association with an influential Miami-based clinician" (which mean these scientists are starting to realising the harm inflicted by the clinician and want to show that they are innocent")?
