Does funnelled mean "slowly and little by little gone to"?

Context:

Scientific publishing, meet cybercrime. Two reputable European science journals have fallen prey to identity theft by criminals who have created counterfeit journal websites. These online doppel­gängers have duped hundreds of researchers into paying author fees, with the ill-won gains being funnelled to Armenia.

I'm sorry, I tried to post a link there but it seems it didn't work. A funnel makes it easy to pour liquid into a small hole by providing a larger receptacle which tapers to a smaller hole at the bottom. Taken in the given metaphor, it can mean that large amounts of money were being poured into a small area, i.e. from hundreds of researchers to Armenia. It doesn't necessarily have the meaning "slo
