Does "becomes repetitive" mean "(such behavior/trip) would be repeated (you will have many such trips)"?

Context:

What was meant to be one trip to a prostitute becomes repetitive, expensive, and time consuming--not to mentiondemoralizing, shame producing, physically dangerous, and emotionally draining.
