Do/don't

Hi, everyone.

Long time no see.

Here is a sentence confusing me:

---How are you today?

---Oh, I haven't felt as ill as I do now for a very long time.

To my ear, the underline doesn't make sense, which means "I haven't felt as ill as I feel ill now for a very long time.". And I guess it should be "I haven't felt as ill as I don't now for a very long time.".

Could you teachers share your comments with me, please?

Thank you in advance.
