Doctorate motivation letter

I need assistance on my draft of my motivation letter.

I am writing to apply for participation in Doctoral courses (30th cycle) that will commence by November 30th, 2014, into the department of Chemical and Pharmaceutical Sciences and Biotechnology. I have reviewed the requirements for the Doctoral courses under the above mentioned department, I believe that my research experiences and commitment to seeking innovate ways makes me qualify for participation in the doctoral courses and in the long run match my research goals and prospects.

I just completed my Master of Technology degree in Chemistry at Vaal University of Technology, Vanderbijlpark, South Africa under the supervision of Prof. so so, and my master research focuses on development of reusable photocatalyst material (TiO2 on Dealuminated Clinoptilolite) for efficient removal and breakdown of organic contaminants in wastewater. I conducted the research work independently and also work as a team player, with an excellent academic record from the master dissertation, a publication of the research findings has been made and also a presentation of the research results at national conferences. Although part of my dissertation focuses on synthesis of new photocatalyst material, other environmental aspect of my research were much emphasized in relations to parameters affecting performance of the photocatalyst in wastewater. The kinetic models were also applied to justify the effect of operational parameters on the photocatalyst degradation efficiency rate.

The usage of “Research gate” offer me the distinctive opportunity to broaden my horizon in aspect of heterogeneous catalysis under Advanced Oxidation Processes, through interaction with reputable researchers and willingness to discover effective ways to solving challenges at hand. The wealth of knowledge gained from this platform has motivated me to explore and invent new innovative ways to solving the water and energy crises by pursuing my Doctoral studies, through dispersion of novel ternary metal semiconductor on modified adsorbent material to conventional binary metal semiconductors (TiO2, ZnO e.t.c). These novel ternary semiconductors are evolving rapidly and depicts promising capabilities in Advanced Oxidation Processes, which will find vast application for production of hydrogen gas for fuel cell as to prevailing usage of fossil fuels for power generation and also for environmental cleanup world wide.

Studying abroad has always been my dream and aspirations, because it opens channels to interact with people of different nationalities with research skills and ideas in solving the impending challenges facing the human race. My short stint during my exchange programme at Tue Delft University of Technology also contribute majorly more to me coming back to Europe to further my PhD studies. Basically attributed to the pioneered knowledge from academia in the university and exposure to modern state of art technology employed in environmental cleanup and energy generation. I was also exposed to several ways of analysing datas which I utilise in assisting my colleagues during their dissertation write-up, also fascinated how the Dutch and other nationalities spend their time and their work ethics. I am also intrigued by University of so so support and encompassing international students with the coffers of the university environment. The level of academic commitment to research excellence and development of novel materials for environmental applications in the chemistry department motivates me to joining the winning team.

I have exceptional experience in academic teaching and mentoring students at all levels of my graduate studies. I utilise my excellent skill of presentation to communicate with my students and transfer genuine knowledge which makes me stay fresh in tune with research trends. I am a fast learner, adaptable to the situation at hand, exceptional at multitasking with tasks being given and also a good team player. Motivation, enthusiasm, maturity, independence, perseverance, adaptability, interdisciplinary backgrounds are vital attributes in succeeding in the PhD research. These are qualities embedded in me in applying for Doctoral studies in Chemical Sciences Department, basically fellow students in the department and academia can reap from my open nature and also a good team player. In the long run, motivate me to learn new ways for production of novel materials for environmental cleanup and invariably transfer some of my learning experiences with my students in the best manner. The PhD degree will surely improve my career goals, research experience and also enable me to champion the cause of clean environment worldwide.
