Doctoral thesis vs. PhD thesis?

Hi,

I'm in Germany. A german colleague just asked me what the difference between doctoral thesis and PhD thesis? I don't know. I think that they are interchangeable. Is there something one should take care when using them? Maybe formal or informal usage?

Best regards,

Wang, Lei
