Do you stay/staying

Hi

Is it OK to ask somebody: Where are you staying?

Or do I have to say: Where do you stay? OR Where did you stay?

Thanks

If you're on vacation and you run into a friend of yours, I guess it's okay to say:
  • ''John! Hi! What a surprise! I didn't expect to see you here. Where are you staying?''

I agree with CB that "Where do you stay" is commonly used for "habitual behavior."
