I am studying a grammar book which is really famous one in Korea and I came up with this thinking: are these sentences really useful for me to memorize? Tell me which sentence is more used for you, the natives, and which is awkard to use. Appreciate for your help!!!!
1. She had a dislike for her science teacher.
2. She took a dislike to her English teacher.
Q: What's the difference btw no1 and 2? For me, both sentences are very awkard and I don't think those sentences are grammartically correct.
3. I would have liked to have seen him.
Do you say like no3? Or is the sentence exist only for grammatical explanation?
4. He was arrested for the stealing of horses.
5. He was arrested for the stealing horses.
The book explains no 4 is correct but no5 is ingrammatical sentence. Please tell me why.
Again Thank you very much for your explanation!
