Grammar

Do you not

Are these both correct:

1) I will lend you money only if you help me clean this place. Now, are you going to help me clean this place or do you not want me to lend you money?

2) I will lend you money only if you help me clean this place. Now, are you going to help me clean this place or don't you want me to lend you money?

I think '2' does not work.

Gratefully,
Navi.

Actually, it does work, but for what you want to say, '1' is probably better. That way there's no confusion with the "encouragement" meaning of "Don't you want ...?" I believe that's what you're focusing on.

Thank you both very much.

CalfiJim, you read my mind.
