Do you need the article here?

Hi,

Please check to see if the article 'a' is necessary. I thought when it is started with a possessive, the article isn't used usually,

It's the sound of a West End's troupe's hit performance, "Stomp," bounding its way into Seoul ...

Yes is is necessary because although it is a possessive, you don't know which troupe they are talking about. If it had been the name of the theatre company with the possessive, then an article wouldn't be used. If you removed the 'a' it would sound as though the theatre company were called 'West End Troupe'.

Do you say the following is OK too? Why is that when the word 'Pandora' seems to be a proper noun. I checked a dictionary and it noted it, 'Opens a Pandora's box', as a 'PHRASE: V inflects'. Should I just take it as an anomaly?

Well, if you knew someone called Pandora and you were opening her box, you would say I opened Pandora's box.
