Do you need to have the article "a" in the part underlined?

I will be leaving in a short sweet two months.

Hi Believer, I would think the word 'period' is implied here which is why you need the article. " That's the only explanation I have as to why the article is needed here... and I agree with you it is :-).

"I will be leaving in a short sweet two months (period of time)."
That's the only explanation I have as to why the article is needed here... and I agree with you it is :-).

I think what we're talking about here is more of a bad habit you'd witness in relaxed forms of speech. You wouldn't want to write that way in formal english. I wouldn't say it's a norm, just an expression that works fine in oral english with amounts of time or money, as well as sizes...
