Do you need "that"?

(1) The program helps you acquire the skills you need for your next job.

(2) The program helps you acquire the skills that you need for your next job.

Is it wrong to add "that" in the second sentence? Thanks.

'that' is optional. The sentence is just as good with it or without it. CJ

I loosely follow the rule that you include "that" in formal writing and leave it out in informal writing. Very loosely. Ear enters into it.
