Do you know your Bible?

Behold, all they that were incensed against thee shall be ashamed and confounded : they shall be as nothing ; and they that strive with thee shall perish.

Thou shalt seek them, and shalt not find them, even them that contended with thee : they that war against thee shall be as nothing, and as a thing of naught.

Two questions:

1) What do you think "strive with thee" means?

and also

2) "Even them that contended with thee"?

Thank you Philip.

Strive: Carry on a conflict, with….

Contended: Fought. Could mean “with” or “against

I wonder why the word "with" was chosen instead of "against" In both instances it reads as if your allies will get the chop! (friendly fire)

Sample sentences:-

USA and Britain are fighting WITH each other AGAINST terrorism.
