Does this happen at your house? How would you write this?

When I turn in the bathroom faucet while someone is taking a shower , the shower water gets cold. This happens because the faucet and shower uses the same water supply.

eg When I turn on the hot water at the sink while someone is taking a shower , the shower gets cold. This happens because the sink and the shower use the same water pipes.

But to my ear, the sentence sounds slightly old-fashioned.
