Do you know anything about this sentence?

Hey, I've heard a phrase that said "when you've hit rock bottom you can go nowhere but up", but what about "nowhere but up" itself? does it mean anything? is that like, rising up when you're down ? is that cheesy or pompous to say "i'm going nowhere but up from here" or hopeful?

"but" means "except", i.e. "I'm going nowhere but up" means the only place you're going is up, i.e. you are very confident that you are going up.

It is not cheesy or pompous. It expresses self-confidence. Whether this is a believable self-confidence or just boa
