Hello everyone.
The situation is, you are watching a soccer game and it starts to rain. You don't want the game to be "called off."
This question I have tells me to choose either "stopped" or " canceled" for the "called off" part so that it will have the same meaning.
Which would be correct? Or more natural, if either is possible?
I thought it was "cancel" but "cancel" generally seems to mean not to make something happen beforehand, so I wasn't sure if it is OK to say "cancel" when the said event is already taking place at the moment.
"Stop" in this situation sounds to me like it is temporary, like a dog came into the ground and they couldn't play for a while, but eventually they would start playing again. I think "Call off" in this situation means that they are not going to play anymore so "stop" didn't seem right.
Thank you in advance
