Essay & Composition Writing

Do you agree with: "had been"-things already completed in the past. "was"-things still going on in the past.

Two years ago. it was a hard decision for me to move to Nagoya, because my son had been studying to enter a private junior high school. I had been teaching him science and social studies.
After much consideration, I decided to move to Nagoya. wife had been working part-time. She had been teaching my son Japanese and mathematics. She didn't have any more time to teach my son science and social studies. My son had be.en attending a cram school. I hoped he would be able to do a good job studying by himself. Eventually, he passed the entrance exam and entered a private junior high school this year. * If you agree with the said rule, then, you would change all the perfect tense into past tense of "was". Your thought on this?

I see no call for past perfect in some places. Past works fine in the beginning at least. I have underlined or commented on other problem areas: Two years ago.

Thank you. After the dad moved away for work, only the mom was help the son with his school studies. The son also attended the cram school(as most school kids do there). He passed the exam without his dad being there to help him with his studies. The son continues in junior high now.

Please try to make the order of events clear in your revised text without resorting solely to verb forms.
