Do you agree that the advantages car bring outweigh the disadvantages?

It is true that cars nowadays play an unreplaceable part in our life. While I accept that automobiles can sometimes have a positive effect on the user, I believe that they are more likely to have a harmful impact.

On the one hand, cars are beneficial in some ways. To begin with, automobile industry provides people with millions of jobs., therefore, reduces unemployment and improves the standards of life. Motor fuel filling stations, automobile repair shops and other busineses that serve car travellers are of major importance of a country’s economy. For instance, these businesses brings Japan over ten billion dollars each year. Another benefit of cars is that it given people freedom of movement. People who need to travel on a daily basic, especially those who live far away from workplace, could stay active all the time thanks to the availability of their personal vehicle. To be more specific, you can go from destination to destination and no time is wasted waiting for the bus and train.

However, I would argue that these benefits are outweighted by the drawbacks. First, automobile can be significantly polluted and harmful to our healths. The vast majority of cars use fossil fuels for energy, as a consequence, it releases a huge amount of greenhouse gas emissions into the air. This leads to the critical degree of contamination and create a variety of diseases damaging people’s health. In China, for example, over half of its population are suffering asthama, cancer and other respiratory disorders because of exhaust from cars. Second, travelling by cars makes us avoid running and walking, then leads to a sedentary lifestyle. This results in a higher rate of heart attack, obesity and other diseases devastating our healths.

In conclusion, it seems to me that the potential dangers of cars are more significant than the possible benefits.
