Education makes humans, however, measures of acquiring knowledge determine the success of studying. At present schools, there are two noticeable kinds of methods of transferring information, which are supplying facts or giving principle concepts. In my opinion, should teachers explain fundamental ideas to students, they will more easily assimilate new knowledge. Therefore, I wholeheartedly agree with the given statement above.
First of all, providing pupils with basic concepts helps them know elementally how everything around them operate. Due to facts may be too specific to one thing such as if base reacts with acid, its production will be salt and water, this fact only limits in two compounds. Nevertheless, were that reaction generalized like if two or more compounds react with each other, their productions will have to have at least one weak electrolytic substance, this elemental concept would give a comprehensive information for students in all reactions. Moreover, with such measure, students can use concepts and their intelligence in order to explain and understand a large number of phenomena that happen in nature.
In addition to previous reason, supplying facts makes students spend more time learning by heart all lessons they have been taught. It takes many years to learn the amount of knowledge throughout facts as every fact belongs to specific aspect and contains specific explanation. For instance, in physics, a number of phenomena existing in nature are coded by different explanation, hence, to those significant quantity of phenomena, it takes time to digest all knowledge in life. Thanks to general concepts, students can spend fewer time assimilating all information that have been transferred in classes. In addition, in the remaining time, extra activities can be taken place such as doing volunteers, playing sports,.. to balance between study and entertainment.
In conclusion, to those reasons were mentioned above, I absolutely approve that statement that it is essential for students to comprehend ideas than to learn facts.
